Default oil leak

Just had the timing belt replaced in June. Had the water pump etc. done at the same time, along with an oil change. About a week ago, it started leaking oil. A pretty fair amount (couple of table spoons maybe?) Seems to be hitting the plastic shield under the front end and running to the back of it and dripping off. My oil on the dipstick still looks clean, but the oil under the car looks filthy dirty, and black. Any good ideas before I take it in to get looked at?

Thanks,
Nick

Nick, sometimes it takes a little while for a small leak to work it's way down to where you can see it. I'd start out politely with the place that did the work and just say that right after the work was done you started noticing a couple drops of oil and now it seems to be getting a bit worse. Would you please look over the work that you did to see if something might have been done to cause the leak.

Do you do any work yourself? Can you get under the car to see if you can pinpoint where the leak is coming from?

Will probably take it back to them for a look over, but I worry that they may not be straight forward with the cause, and try to bill me for something else. I am going to go fight the spiders under my house and dig out the car ramps and see if I can pin point where it is coming from. I also wondered about the drain plug. If they didn't tighten it to 20 foot pounds, it might loosen and start leaking after a while.

Sorry, That would be too easy and it would also leak straight down and probably not get on the plastic shield, but I could be wrong. Check around the oil filter also. I once changed the oil in a hurry, pulled the old filter off and it left the ring gasket in place, stuck to the flat surface. Screwed the new filter on, on top of the old gasket. Doesn't make for a tight fit but didn't start leaking for awhile. Lesson learned...take you time, check things twice.

Probably not, now that I took another look at the bottom.

Did you get this resolved?
I have an 07 Limited and had the timing belt changed about 3,000 miles ago. Now I have a oil leak on the right side somewhere. The bracket that holds on the filter is where I see it. I took it back to the shop who did the timing belt. They think it is the "gasket" between the oil filter bracket and the engine block.
They're not sure though. Not a dealer shop just a local ASE mechanic.

Unless you trust those mechanics in might be a good time to look for a new one.
You had said your oil stick looked clean, if you head gasket was going it should have looked milky. You also should have had some tail smoke, from the antifreeze getting in your motor.
