Default 2007 pt cruiser a/c blowing hot

When I first start car and put a/c on, a/c blows hot. At this point, cooling fan is NOT on. After temp gauge in cab gets to about half way, cooling fan kicks on. At this point, a/c is still blowing hot. Any suggestions on what to check next??

Is the clutch on the compressor engaging? If not you could simply be low on refrigerant. Other possibilities are a bad low or high pressure switch.

Recently the check engine light came on, went to parts store and determined it was a cam position sensor issue. I changed sensor, engine light went off and car is running fine, just with hot A/C. Can this be a computer issue?

What do you mean by "it did not take freon"?

You can try bypassing one or both of the pressure switches. Remove the connector for the switch and use a wire or something else electrically conductive to connect the two contacts together. Doing this will only tell you which switch is preventing the compressor from turning on. You will need to know what the suction and discharge pressures are to determine if the switch is faulty.

My friend put gauges on and told me compressor wasn't kicking on and he couldn't put freon in. I was in a rush, thought it would be a quick freon charge and I would be on my way so I just closed the hood and left. Trying to troubleshoot and see if I can get a/c working.

You need to figure out why the compressor clutch is not engaging. Here are all the possible causes of the compressor clutch not engaging that I can think of in the order of most likely to least likely.

1. Low pressure switch open due to low refrigerant.
2. Low pressure switch open due to a bad switch.
3. High pressure switch open due to bad switch.
4. High pressure switch open due to high refrigerant pressure.
5. Bad wiring (A/C on/off switch, pressure switches).
6. Bad wiring (A/C clutch, A/C clutch relay).
7. A/C clutch relay bad.
8. A/C clutch bad.
9. PCM A/C clutch relay output bad.

Problems 1-5 above will keep the PCM from engaging the clutch and fan. Problems 6-9 should have the PCM trying to engage the clutch and the fan. Since you said that the fan does come on when the temperature is about half way but not when the A/C is on I would concentrate on problems 1-5.

Does your AC fan turn on? I'm having similar situation. PT is the shop right now. It requires a new AC motor as my fan wouldn't turn on causing pressure build up in the system.

Trying to find low a/c pressure switch for 2007 pt cruiser; Local parts dealers don't have them (only high pressure). Anyone know where to buy one??
