Default Head Gasket Fix?

Seem to have a leaky head gasket on 02 Cruiser. Is it totally inadviseable to put in a head gasket leak repair fluid? Do I risk further harming my engine by doing so?

Unless you like clogged radiator, clogged heater core, don't do it.

Where does the head gasket leak?

Not really sure. Been loosing water. Car was getting hot and blowing coolant out. Replaced thermostat, checked hoses and radiator for leaks, all fine. Getting air bubbles in radiator, and loosing about a quart of water even after a short trip (less than 20 miles, or 45 km for Piper George). Oil is clean, Just don't have 500 bucks to tear an engine down, hoping for a cheap fix. or hit the lottery.

Do you have access to a compression tester?

There's a chemical reaction that's ideally suited to plugging combustion
leaks. I'd rip it apart any ways, it'll be fun!

Have you made sure the fan comes on?

Fan works perfectly fine on both speeds. As UptownSport suggested, will probably tear her down when time (and of course money) permit. Spent all day trying to give new life to my '99 Explorer, but found out the rear differential is shot. This of course after I spent the time replacing a cracked head, leaky waterpump and a few other odds and ends. Did get the '98 Ranger front end all put back together so I have one serviceable vehicle. Pretty bad when the best car I own is my daughter's who's 2 hours away at college ('05 Neon). Oh well, at least I don't have to worry about what I do with my "free" time.

Shouldn't cost much;
Headgasket ($35), Water neck gasket($5), do belt/ idlers ($100)/ water pump ($120).

$300 w/ miscellaneous

I reuse the valve cover gasket, intake and exhaust flange

Hey Uptown,
Should you not dothe timing belt as well. I thought you had to take ALL that stuff off to replace the head gasket--sorry, just haven't looked that closely at the job yet.

Yep! the 2.0 Gates 'kit' was ~$100, don't recall what 2.4 was.
There's multiple types of tensioners, can't keep up with them.
