Default valve questions

wen my timing belt broke it naturally bent some valves so looking in to rebuilding it and i have conversed with some engine machinists they suggested only fixing whats wrong with that head and not to worry about changing the other valves that arent bent?? what would you do if you were in my position?? replace the bent 4 or replace all 16??

I'd turn head upside down and fill the comustion chambers of the other 3 with alcoho and let sit overnight - if no alcohol leaks past the valves, then just do the 4 bent ones.

It all rests on you but, I personally would only replace the valves that were bent. That is what I did to the 250 engine in my 66 chevy when the valves got stuck. However, I would also have the machinist check the overall condition of the head for unusual wear or damage (valve guides, etc.)

P.S.: If they are honest, they will compare one of YOUR bent valves to one of the new ones if you ask, my machinist did.

Disclosure: This is my opinion, not to be taken literally.

x2.

These are very good heads. Valve guide wear is minimal even on extreme mileage engines.
Replace only what's bent, put it back on; drive
