Default 05 timing belt

Ok sorry to do this again just making sure my ducks are in a row before i start this project. I have an 05 2.4 non turbo I am doing the timing belt I want to do it the easiest way, I have read that there is a new design that the cover needs to be altered to fit and an old design. I guess mechanical and hydroilic is what I am seeing. Can someone tell me whats the best for me.

Both the old design and new design are mechanical tensioners. The old design has a pull pin that releases the tension. The new design sets the tension by rotating the inner part of the tensioner then tightening the through bolt. I think the hydraulic tensioner is used on the 1.6L engine.

My opinion: the new design tensioner is a little better since setting the tension on it compensates for tolerance of all of the components when first installed. Releasing the fixed tension of the old design does not do this.

What is best for you depends on your budget, time and mechanical skills.

They went to the new design sometime in '03 or '04. Your '05 should already have it and the matching covers. You want the mechanical tensioner not the hydraulic one.
