Default A/C Fuses and Relays.

So my teenage brother was replacing his battery in ihis 08 cruiserthen and installed it backwards. After he realized what he did the inside dome and stereo weren't working. We looked in the fuse box under the hood and found two blown fuses. We replaced those and everything works except the door locks and the ac. I was wondering if it could be a relay or fuse somewhere else other than the box that's causing this problem. The ac still blows air but nothing cold. Also the automatic door locks still lock all doors but will only unlock the drivers side front door. Any and help would be appreciated.

Most relay circuits in the PT have one fuse for the coil and another fuse for the power it switches. My '02 is different than your brother's '08 so I couldn't tell you exactly which fuses to check but it is probably a good idea to check all of them. The relay itself shouldn't have been affected by the reversed battery conenction. One way to check the relay would be tro swap it with another one that is easy to check, for example the horn relay. If the horn does not work with the A/C relay, then replace the relay. If the horn works with both relays and the A/C works with neither, the problem is elsewhere.

Do you know where the relays would be located? I've seen two or three on the firewall but not sure which is which.

So I have made the same bone head mistake rushing to change my wife's battery after work. Same issue as the original poster. When I hit the a/c the compressor clutch doesn't engage. Just curious if there's is a relay I can replace.

Edit: It's a 2007

Internal relay in the TIPM... You need a DRB 3 or equivalent to reset

So I could go to a dealer to get it reset?

I would recommend you to call the service department and ask what they charge to clear a DTC, then call around to other shops and ask if they have a DRB to clear and reset Chrysler TIPM's.

I would suggest keeping in mind that the PCM output to the TIPM needs to be checked before replacing or repairing the TIPM. The PCM sends signals to the TIPM inputs on A/C clutch control.

On the TIPM there is a possibility that the circuit board or the components on the circuit board may need to be repaired. The TIPM is not designed to have the battery hooked up backwards and might have some internal components burnt or open contacts.

This is an example of what a TIPM looks like on the inside but this TIPM is not for a PT Cruiser. The purpose of the link below is just to show you how small the components are inside of a TiPM and when they are small they don't handle excessive electrical current.

Is your engine light on? Are there any engine trouble codes?

Is your PT Cruiser equipped with the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC)?

You might be able to reprogram it to get all the door locks to work again.

I would suggest trying to fix the problem by looking at page 8 on the pdf below that explains how to program to make all the doors unlock with the keyFOB with or without the EVIC.

I checked all of the fuses and everything works besides the compressor clutch.

I did have to replace the radio and door lock fuses.
