Default Clicking noise after 02 cruiser warms up. Said to be flywheel.

Hey there, just picked up a 02 cruiser and the person I bought it from said that there was a clicking noise that she was told was the flywheel and it needed to be replaced. This has an automatic transmission. She was quoted 650$ to have this replaced. Does this sound legit? I bought the car anyways because the price was right but will need to have this fixed probably before we drive it. Please let me know. Thanks. Sounds sort of like a card in the spokes of a bicycle after awhile.

Only happen while driving or when stopped also?
I have NEVER heard of a PT needing a flywheel.
How many miles on it? Was timing belt replaced?

Hard to say without hearing it in person but I have heard that exact noise you describe coming out of the bell housing area. Every time it turned out to be loose flywheel bolts.

If it is the flywheel itself (I guess if it's cracked or something), around $400-$500 would be about average for labor plus the cost of the part.

An automatic transmission doesn't have a flywheel, it has a flex plate.

I would get a second opinion. If the bolts were loose, it would make the sound all the time, not just when warm. Something doesn't sound quite right about this to me...

Very common on Neon modular (uses flexplate, aka 'driveplate') to
have the flexplate to clutch bolts loosen. Both vehicles use the same
flexplate on both manual and slushbox

You could check this yourself by removing the oil pan to trans bracket, then
the little inspection cover. Tightening 'em might, and a BIG might, cure
the problem at this point.
(NOTE: This is on a Neon, MAJOR components are exactly the same,
brackets MIGHT be different, although these bolts must be accessible
in some way!)

Note, I've not heard of flexplate to crankshaft bolts coming loose, there's always going to be that one ...
