Default 01 stalled, no crank, no start - thoughts?

Drove about 20 miles, stopped at a light, took it out of gear.

Green light, put car in gear, went to take off and it stalled. One buck and dead.

Tried to re-start, nothing. No Crank, No click, nothing, just like the clutch was not engaged. I tried everything. I have all dash lights and chimes.

Tried several times while waiting on the tow truck, nothing.

Sat all day until my husband got home. He checked the starter wires....(touched them) and it started!

No codes, new battery....thoughts? I'm afraid to drive it to work now.

could be a bad clutch safety switch. it's located under the dash and attached to the clutch pedal. if the switch goes bad the car won't crank because the computer thinks the clutch isn't depressed.

when you turn the key do you hear the fuel pump prime?
A while back my car wouldn't start after sitting for a few hours. everything seemed to work normal except the fuel pump didn't come on when I turn the key to the run position and it wouldn't crank. all lights and other things worked like normal. I had the car towed to a dealer, I was on vacation, they diagnosed a bad computer, been fine since that was replaced.

The clutch switch doesn't explain why the car stalled in the first place, and if it were the fuel pump, the car would have still cranked.

Check the positive battery cable where it goes to the starter. It's probably loose or corroded. While you're there, also check the ground cable.

rcktpwrd - can I ask what that new ECM cost you?

This no start/no crank became an intermittent problem. We replaced the clutch pedal position switch and the problem got worst. Switch tested ok. Not sure where to go from here, may be the ECM?

You didn't say if you checked the wires on the starter, or not. Sounds very much like a bad connection to the starter, or possibly bad ground.

Darwa,

Please listen to these guys-

Fact that your husband was able to 'fix' it by adjusting starter wires is a great piece of information, and they're picking up on it - Saying wiring, for some reason, may be loose or corroded.

I know my PT had lots of corrosion around the battery; you couldn't see it unless you popped off the top of the airbox. I've seen others post pics of similar corrosion.

Ok, here's the solution....so we kept going back to the wiring on the starter. But everything looked good. It took two us jiggling, pushing and pulling to see the the slightess movement where the wiring connector is attached to the starter. We were finally able to fix it, break it, fix it and break it again. We decided to replace the start, instead of trying to fix that connection.

thanks for everyones input.
