My friend with a 400+ hp GT removed his and said he would never do it again on this engine. Not worth it he said. There have been problems for others in the SRT4 crowd who've done this. Hope you find your part.

It has to be removed to do the timing belt...

Mds,
Sorry to hear you had a problem. I would get one from the dealer if it's not terribly expensive. Check RockAuto and see what they offer...

There is no "harmonic balancer" on the PT engine, at least not in the old sense that they used to be attached to the end of the crankshaft and usually had the timing marks scribed onto them.

Our 2.4's have a pair of "balance shafts" to do our harmonic balancing and I think that is what 2004 is eluding to. On the other hand, I think md is talking about the crankshaft sprocket that the balance shafts run off of, via a chain. It is attached to the end of the crankshaft.

I think he is talking about the crankshaft pulley.

That would make even more sense.

if he 'buggered' up the bolt hole wouldn't that mean the bolt hole on the end of the crank shaft? The one the pulley puller screws into <beats me>

sorry now looking back at my previous post, i was rather vauge on my description. now by harmoninc balancer; i mean crank shaft pully. and by buggered up the hole; i mean that wen i used the puller, the push rod on the puller- actually egg shaped the hole on the crank shaft pulley? my stupidity for doing this and not paying attention. however its done and over.. i just needed to kno whats a good brand to buy?? :/ hopefully this helps yall understand my problem??? lol thanks for yall's continued support on resurecting my pt!!

Now I understand your problem, that happens when you use a regular puller that pushes in the pulley instead of the Chrysler one that uses a rod that goes inside and pushes in the crankshaft
Maybe you can use the one from Rockauto or get it from the dealer or mopar-wholesale.com for about $60.
