Default Wheel Bearings not just a PT issue!!

Don't just blame Chrysler for the issues many of us have with wheel bearing failing prematurely. My baby (2nd one owned) has 104k and it's time for them again, or at least the driver's side.

Additionally, my 2009 Nissan Altima starting making noise at 17K. At first the dealer blamed the tires. The dealer finally changed one bearing today on the last day of the factory warranty at 20K. You think you buy a brand new Japanese car and you expect it to be trouble free, that's obviously not the case.

It's hit or miss with many parts being imported from all over the world. My first PT never required wheel bearings, but it did require control arm bushings and a cooling fan.

Funny - I've never replaced a wheel bearing in any car I owned, but I did need 3 starters and 2 alternators....
Some things don't have predictable lifespans...

I've had to replace wheel bearings a couple of times but so far so good on the PT. My others were from running in lots and lots of water....eventually all those seals start to go and you get water in the bearing grease which turns to rust which causes friction which breaks down the bearings and roller ways....

I think it has a lot to do with how you drive as well...if you run the Cruiser like a go-cart you are going to be putting a whole lot more force on the beraings compared to granny driving.

You will find most of the problem for premature bearing failure is because of the offset of the rim. Too much offset puts a lot of pressure on the bearing.
Think of it like hanging a weight off the end of your finger then slide that weight in towards the center and you'll find it much easier to hold up.
