Default BG Universal Synthetic ATF

Has anyone used BG Universal Synthetic ATF in their PT?

I had a transmission flush done at an ex-Chrysler dealership and asked twice before getting it done if they used Chrysler ATF-4 when they did it and they said yes. When I went to pick up the car, I saw that the invoice said BG universal synthetic ATF. They claim it is the same thing plus they have a $1000 36,000 mile warranty on any transmission problems.

Should I be worried about the fluid or is it a valid replacement for Mopar ATF-4?

I would think as long as it's ATF that it would be OK. I had mine flushed with synthetic with the BG machine from the Chrysler dealer. Hopefully they knew what they were doing. The fluid came in a sealed plastic bag-like container inside a cardboard box. Only had ATF Synthetic written on the outside. So you should be OK.

It's 49K since I had it done and it's running good. Time to do it again.

Isn't there a list here of approved ATF's for our PT's? If not, Google in "Chrysler Approved ATF Automatic Transmission Fluid".

Yes, I had found that list and saw that BG was not on it. I did send a contact request using the link there to ask if it was compatible, but have not recieved anything back.

First impressions after the change is that my mileage seems to be less, instead of 25-26 on the highway, only 21 on the last fillup, not conclusive yet, I have only run one complete tankfull since the change. Also, it does seem to be much easier to get the tires to break loose if I floor it at a stop.

After 6 months, I finally got a response back from Chrysler on my question on if BG transmission fluid is compatible with the PT's transmission

Quote:
Thank you for your contact. My apologies for the delay in responding. BG 312 BG Universal Synthetic ATF is not a licensed product and, therefore, not recommended for use in Chrysler transmissions. Although it has been several months, our recommendation would be to change your ATF fluid to ATF+4 for long-term transmission protection and performance. In most cases, inappropriate transmission fluids will not cause immediate catastrophic failure but will cause on-going degradation, shortening the life and performance of the transmission.

ATF+4 is a unique formulation that has been designed specifically to meet the exacting requirements of Chrysler transmissions. The fluid has gone through an extensive developmental and testing process, including more than one million miles of severe field testing. It is a high performance, synthetic fluid that provides significant reduction in component wear, superior temperature performance, consistent shift quality, and exceptional friction modifying properties.

Only licensed ATF+4 products (with "ATF+4" as part of the brand name and a valid license number on the back of the label) contain the unique formulation. Other look-alike products that claim to be suitable for use in Chrysler transmissions have not gone through Chrysler's rigorous testing process, are not monitored for quality, and are not approved or recommended for use in Chrysler transmissions.

Thank you for your interest in properly caring for your Chrysler vehicle. I hope this provides you with the information you need. If you have any questions, please contact me.

Sincerely,

.....

I have already had the transmission fluid changed to Mopar fluid, since I noticed the pan was leaking when I changed the oil last time. I had to drive to the next county as Chrysler closed all of the dealers within ~30 miles of me.
