Question Error Code P0605

Hi, I have a 2001 PT cruiser with 143,800 miles. It is in pretty good condition and has given me very few problems over the past 10 years. My engine light has come on and I got a 700 code through my key system. Took it to a garage for a scan and got P0605 Control Module Programming Read Only Memory (ROM). Waiting to see what needs to be done to correct it. Don't want to put a large amount of money into the car but also don't want to give it up. If anyone has dealt with this code, I would appreciate any information you could give me....potential repair, cost, etc.

Thanks. Barb

It's a ROM memory issue. You need to take power off your car for minimum 5 minutes. My suggestion, remove the negative terminal connection off the battery, then while it's off turn on the key and press on the brakes a few times. This helps bleed down any residual charge on the system. After say 5 minutes, reconnect and start your car. After it's run for a few minutes, turn it off, then do the key dance to see if you still have any DTC's. The code should clear. It's generally a temporary code due to garbage on the electronic buss system. Affects the flash memory, but if you can clear it, it usually will go away.

Been near anything electrical lately? Parked under any high power lines???

Thanks for the quick response. I hope that it only something as simple as you have suggested. I had read a similar suggestion on another site so I am going to give it a try. Would love to hang onto my PT for alittle longer. I am curious to see what the mechanic has to say today.

May be looking at an issue with internal trans controller. Worst case scenerio, replace controller. Having the car scanned at a transmission shop tomorrow as my mechanic can not handle repair. Has anyone replace a controller? Cost?

Thanks.
