Default Cranks but don't start after TB replacement

Hi, I'm Juan and I've been reading this forum since I bought my 2001 PT Cruiser (3 months ago) with 120K on it, and I found it really useful.

My Cruiser began to smoke at start up, but not during the drive. I think that the valve seals were the culprits. So I decided to replace them.

Since I was there I decided to replace the timing belt, water pump, tensioners, head gasket, torque struts, spark plugs, wires and also cleaned the injectors, made a valve job and a coolant flush.

I finished (finally) after one month with the car in the driveway. The problem came when I tried to start the car. It cranks, but don't start.
I've been reading here that could be a problem with the crankshaft o camshaft sensors, since I've removed the crankshaft.
The question is, if it's the mentioned above, how can I fix it? I tried disconnecting the negative from the battery, but still the same.
If not, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance
JD

I checked for errors and I found a P0340 error. The camshaft position sensor. I checked all the wiring and it's Ok (actually I found that the resistance between the negative and the ground was 1.2Kohms, I jumped the black wire to the ground just to check if the failure came from a bad grounding, but no)
So now I'm going to buy a camshaft sensor to check if it starts.

BTW, does anybody knows how much vacuum is the correct?

I am not nsure BUT i think there are 2 sensors that will plug into the same type of plug but they will not let the car start

yes it's true, the camshaft sensor and the coil have the same connector, but I checked the color of the wires and they are OK (just in case I swapped them, but still won't start)

180 out means both crankshafts rotated 180 right? I put both with the arrows pointing up (at least I think so, I'll check it tomorrow)
I've been reading that sometimes the Chrysler's ECUs show the P340 Error when the Crankshaft position sensor is bad. Prior to buy the camshaft sensor I'll check it, maybe the wiring were broken during the engine lifting.
Also the P340 error could mean "camshaft sensor bad" or "camshaft and crankshaft sensors misaligned)
if the timing belt is OK (I hope so) How can I align both sensors?

Thanks for the help

Sounds like your cam timing's off.
Sensors go bad, but at this point with entire engine being dis-assembled
timing is most likely the problem

Well guys, following your advice, I re-checked the timing, and surprise! (actually, coming from me, not surprise at all) , the exhaust camshaft is 180 out, so now I am officially stupid!!!

Tomorrow's will be a beautiful "re-timing day" in Ann Arbor

Thanks for your answers and I'll tell you if it works

Another issue, Since I have the P0340 Error I checked the wiring to the sensor. I have ground in the middle pin (OK), 8.2v in one of the wires and 5v into the wire that goes to the pin 33 to the connector in the PCM. Is it OK?
Since the sensor works sending an electric pulse to the pcm, and this one compares this pulse with a 5v reference. Shouldn't be 0v between ground and the pin 33?

Well, finally is working, but still smokes at startup, I checked the cylinder rings and they're OK, I replaced the valve seals and the head gasket.
Could be the PCV?
