Default Engine problem

Hey guys I got this problem that just started happening last week and would like to know if anyone had it 2.
When I start driving, my engine starts to hesitate(like when u r running out of gas) ussually in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears below 3000 revs, and sometimes specially in 2nd gear I hear a knoking coming out of the engine when I try to floor it to see if it goes away. Just today my check engine light came on, and this is starting to worry me, any help will be great.
2003 Pat Blue-15200 miles (only engine mod is a cold air intake)
Thanks

If it does it only under load, like when you give it more gas, or up a hill, etc., then it may be a secondary ignition mis. This is usually the plug wires or plugs, and on cars that have them, distributors and rotor buttons. It sounds odd on a car with so few miles, but I have bought new plug wires and have gotten a bad one out of the box before that caused this and was a pain in the butt to locate. Not sure on anything else.

I'm 100% in back of what TripleJack said. if you can't do-it-yourself, go to a trusted mechanic and put in on a machine. It'll probably turn out to be a bad plug or wire. But then again, an injector could have gone south. [:I]

Still under warrantee? Get to your dealer! Or a dealer you trust!
(Otherwise get to a trusted mechanic)

cold air intake is probably not the cause, unless you busted the intake temp sensor during the install...

Should I do a tune up and put new plugs and wires? Also yes it does it when i hit the gas but also when in idle it kinds of goes down in revs and up like if it is going to stall, Could cold weather have anything to do as far as the plugs and wires issue?

Before you pick up a tool, read the codes. Duh.
There's no reason to guess when you have datastream and code history data to help pinpoint the fault.

You can read generic engine codes for free. Just turn the ignition key from off to on 3 times quickly, ending in the on position.
The codes will read on the odometer.
Misire codes for plugs/wires will read as P0300, P0301, etc...

Don't start throwing parts at it without any diagnostics.
