timing belt installation???

Default timing belt installation???

ok header is installed!!! new head is installed!!! new water pump too!! and a few various other mods have been completed!! now its time for the timing belt to be installed!! i have installed it 3 or 4 times to find out that the cam gears have rotated thus not having the timing marks lined up properly?? any pionters or tricks to doing tis job??

I think there is a special tool that will hold the 2 cams in the correct position im sure some one will chimne in I think there were even pic's

some how?? either way... it aint easy... and i thought the timing belt on my mustang was hard to do... lol ill get er some how... lol but HELP.... lol

Best is to time w/ rocker cover off-
There's two holes- Install rods, extensions, etc. They need to be parallel.

Use a straight edge across cam bolt center (ensure you torque these bolts!!)
(you can see one hole in upper right corner of this pic)


The holes are in area with arrows on below picture

how do i keep the cam gears from rotating while installation of timing belt?? the cam gears are torqued to spec. but evry time i try to install the belt the cam gears rotate.. thats my biggest problem.

There is a special tool that holds the gear from turning, I made my own from a piece of flat steel stock and a couple bolts... A web search have me pics to copy.

Use an 8mm or 5/16" socket with short extension on time belt screws to stop gear turning- works Great!!!

Use an 18mm wrench. Don't have too much trouble here.
You can move belt to extreme exterior and slip one tooth
back / fro on pulleys

There is this tool in the Volvo world, I'm sure you can make your own.
