Default Bad Fuel Economy? You might check your Exhaust Manifold (pic)

Same as Neon, exhaust manifold cracks, O2 sensor sniffs extra
oxygen(from crack), believes engine's running lean and tells PCM
to puke in fuel.
(Although it looks like it, horizontal line isn't a crack, casting part line)

Other side was cracked, too; there was a fresh layer of
soot on combustion chamber / pistons.

Rockauto.com has the manifold,

whoa, that's ugly. I'm gonna run my pen cam around mine and see if I pick up any cracks.

Yes I remember the Talon 2L turbos were notorious for this as well.

Unfortunately, you'd need to remove shielding to see cracks,
unless they're awesomely large.

Here, again is 2.0 version:

You can weld it, nickel rod and heat / cool with oxy /acetylene torch:
(Note relieving strike marks)

1st pictured manifold was so severe, I wouldn't try welding, perhaps brazing.

I think, if you look @ Crewzins pic, you can remove shield on car.
See one of crewzins looks snapped, but I've had really good luck with them. A little lube underneath on long bolt threads helps if it starts to move.

Yea, it snapped while changing the upstream sensor but there are 4 bolts that hold the shield on so I figured 3 was good nuff.
