Default 05 PT - no air during idle, rough idling.

Hi everyone!

My mother-in-law is having some issues with her 05 PT cruiser (again!).
It has about 130 000km, and is non-turbo.

The car idles fairly roughly if you are trying to blow hot air or air conditioning.
The air blows just fine at either temperature while the car is driving.
Then when you come to a red light, no air.

In the summer, it wasnt such an issue.... but in our lovely Canadian climate, this car will never warm up enough to drive soon.

Anyone got any ideas?
I've seen you guys come up with awesome ideas on here, dont stop on my account!
Thanks!

For most cars, I'd recommend checking the idle air control valve and cleaning the throttle body.

But I just recently discovered, that for a PT, those symptoms are often a result of a burned out radiator fan. I just had that exact problem -- rough idle w/AC on and no air at idle and the radiator fan was the culprit.

So, you mean the radiator fan motor?

Yes, the radiator fan motor. A very weak link in the cooling system. Let everything cool down. Start the car and put the A/C ON, now check to see if the fan is running. The fan should be on ANY time the compressor is ON which means the A/C or defrost mode which also turns on the compressor.

turns out the radiator fan motor was toast, and the radiator has a slow leak...
This PT really is a lemon..

The list of problems never seems to end.
