Default Clunking when brake released

Hi all,
I have a 2003 limited 2.0 cruiser(60,00miles), and recently I am experiencing a "clunk" when the brake pedal is released after heavy braking, and very occasionally when going over pot-holes.I feel it through through pedal.
The car has had new control arms at about 50,000 miles.
I can't see any movement in the bushes, and alignment seems to be ok, so I'm thinking maybe a brake problem, as I had a retaining spring weaken on a rear pad and cause something similar earlier this year.
Am I on the right track with this?
Many thanks

I'd certainly start with the brakes - easy enough to take off wheels and inspect.

Thank's for the feedback.
I won't get a chance to get underneath her 'till tomorrow, so I'll know more then, can't see any movement in the engine mounts, but It's a thought.
Weirdly it has gone away, which again leads me to believe it's brake related. I'm going to strip it out tomorrow and see what I can see....
