Angry Electrical Burning Smell and Smoke from Under Hood

I know other people have also experienced the crazy electrical problems with the dashboard gauges and warning lights. I have taken the suggestions I find on this forum to the dealers, and they still cannot locate the problem. The other day though, a new symptom of electrical problems appeared: SMOKE. Anyone have the following happen to them? I was sitting at a red light when I suddenly smelled an extremely strong chemical odor, which I initially thought belonged to the exhaust pipe of a truck that just passed me. As I drove on, I opened the windows to get the smell out of the car, and it just wasn't dissipating. I started to wonder if it was me, and at the next red light, I noticed smoke coming from under the hood, on the driver's side, up near the cab. I parked the car, and called the dealer the next morning. After looking at it, they told me that although they smelled a faint electrical smell (when it happened, it was strong enough to leave the stench in my hair and clothes after I had been home for a while!) they couldn't find any evidence of anything being burned. I am getting so fed up with this car, and I'm afraid to even drive it this winter.

Hard for us on the forum to try and pinpoint where your smoke and burning smell is coming from. If the dealer looked around and couldn't find anything not sure what we can do except to guess at things that hopefully the dealer didn't look at already. Do you know if the dealer had the car running while looking for some smoke? If not, you might want to try that and hopefully it will start to smoke again and you'll be able to find out exactly where it's coming from,

Thinking 'outside the box' but a burning clutch smells 'electrical'.

also what devices were active at the time of seeingthe smoke?

head lights?....low beam / high beam?

brake lights? I would imainge so since you were stopped at time of noticing.

turn signals?

fog lights?.....if equiped.

interior dome light?

a/c or defroster?

just heater?

anything plugged into the cigrette lighter type electrical outlet?

anything else?

if it truly was electrical knowing what other devices besides just the vehilce being on might be a way to start back tracking and checking possible hot spots....for lack of a better term.
