Default Brain change

Hi guys I have a po601 code and a p1684 code from I can gather the p0601 means you need to replace the brain well I have another brain out of an 01 automatic and the bad one is out of my 01 standard I have been told that it will work well I changed them out and stated right up and ran about 10to15 seconds and quiet I start it up again and something it won't stay running no more then 10 to 15 seconds. Do I need to just let it set with the key to reprogram it's self or am I screwed.the other thing is p1684 code I looked it up and don't understand what it means.

P1684 does not indicate a problem; it's only a status, which indicates that the PCM memory has been cleared within the last 50 ignition cycles.

The sequence is called "programming". It will not run without your vin tied into it. Have you got it programmed???

In order for the 'new' pcm to work it needs to be programmed by the dealer to the vin of the car it's installed in. Everything in the car is linked by the computer and vin number...

DiTTO

The PT will start up, that tells you you have a useable version of the PCM/ECM installed. But, to get it to operate, you need it programmed.

Thanks guys I was trying to avoid the dealer on account of having not worked for two years. Just thought I might get lucky and find an easy way out I'll have to figure a way of getting done i guess as long as the one I got out of automatic will work with the stick shift. Thanks again. John
