After 2002 Chrysler changed the EGR system.

Which 2.4? The 2.4 in the PT isn't the same engine as, say, the 2.4 in Sebrings and Avengers.

Thumbs up Re: 2.4 block differances?

The 2.4 engine in the PT Cruiser is exactly the same as in the 4 door Stratus / Sebring cars. I used one from an 02 Stratus in my 01 PT.

I had to swap all of the brackets, as well as the oil pump and oil pan. When you strip them down to the bare block, they're identical...

'01 and '02 are the same except for the EGR head difference - '03 and up used a different crank sensor / timing setup.

Hold on pardners!!!

Blocks changed in '02 to 'BULGE', then when it went NGC.

Not an expert here, this is what I do know:

'01 has the '95-'01 deck, same as ALL 2.0 neon and previous 2.4 decks:
Note drain on right side of block in first pic,
and drain in left center second pic

In third pic, you can see the '01 head has a bulge- much larger than drain on block.

'02 block has that drain the same size as that head's bulge, and has large drain hole.

Next there's NGC, You can tell by where crank sensor is.
'95-'0? rear by oil filter.

'0? to '10 behind starter + NGC.

So there's at least three different blocks, plus, perhaps a Rear Wheel Drive (Liberty, Dakota) block

Hmmm, here's what I know... I took an '02 Stratus Engine (4 door car) - swapped over my '01 brackets, oil pan and pump and used it in my '01 car.

Then, I used the leftover '01 head (blocked the EGR hole) on an '03 Stratus 2.4

I'm not talking about 10 year old cars here...

I was simply asking about which 2.4 engine.

I owned a 2010 Avenger before it got totalled, along with my PT, both 2.4, but both distinctly different engines.

No offense, but everyone else (including the original post) was referring to the older engines. '01 / '02 - 2.4's.

"no offense" but the original question makes no mention of older 2.4s, he only mentions older ones after the question.

The 2.4s are NOT the same. They may be similar, and they may be interchangeable, but they're different blocks with different part numbers. Just because they look identical doesn't mean anything. I can pull a list of block part numbers for you for PTs, Sebrings, and Avengers if you'd like to argue with me some more.

Ooops- I was talking PT. Avenger 2.4 was the world engine or something.
It was supposed to be highly advanced, but already re-designed because it didn't include direct injection

Yes, you can work miracles with the '01 head!!!!

'01-'02 swap as a whole. Whenever they went NGC, they don't
