I wanted to change the oil on my 2003, 5-speed. There are two plugs underneath the car. One says "oil drain." The other looks like it is on the bottom of the crankcase. I was told to remove the one that says "oil drain," to change the oil, which I did. Some oil came out. I put in 4 qts. of oil. My dipstick shows that it has too much oil. My question is: Did I use the correct plug? What is the other plug, not labeled "oil drain" for? (It is located close to oil filter and it appears to me to be where the oil would be drained.)

Was the oil black/brown or red? Maybe you drained the transmision oil

Thanks for the replies.
No, it is not a diesel. |

Can you take a picture of the plug? And what size wrench did you use to remove the plug?

Thanks for your input and the great suggestions. I think I drained the transmission fluid instead of the oil. I am going to drain the proper amount of oil out and then get transmission fluid and put in the proper amount.
You helped! |

Make sure you use ATF+4 for the transmision

To refill the trans it should take about 2.5 quarts of fluid, make sure you use ATF+4. The fill plug is located on the drivers side of the trans case, it's accessed from the wheel well area. The oil pan drain plug is located near where the oil filter is and it faces towards the back of the car.

Thanks again for your help. I bought Pennzoil, but HAVE NOT
USED IT YET, so please advise if this is not correct. It says on the bottle, "Pennzoil synchromesh fluid is a synchromesh transmission fluid designed for certain manual transaxles and manual transmissions, used by GM and Chrysler." If I absolutely need, ATF+4, please tell me where to purchase. I couldn't find it at AutoZone. ALSO, I have added pics to show the drain plug I used--you can see where it is and you can see that it is clearly labeled, "oil drain." The hex head is #15 metric. To your knowledge, is this where I should ADD transmission fluid? Please reply if you can shed any light on this--! Do any other PT owners have this drain plug? |
