If it is the driver side window, then it's likely either just the switch or the window lift motor. On most cars it's always the lift motor. And it's almost always the driver's window that goes bad first because it gets a lot more use than the others.

But I've found on my first gen. PT, that the contact points in the window switch are just as likely to be bad. And it's worth it to try and clean those first. I figure there's something about how to do it in the "How To" section.

If it is the driver's window, go ahead and buy a new or rebuilt lift motor. A used one will likely to just go out too after a while because the driver's window gets so much use.

The window drop feature is called smart window, and there is a module that controls it. Usually if you disconnect the battery for five minutes it will reset. There is a fairly length discussion on the convertible forum here called window problem. It is about six pages back from the new threads. I would read it first.

to reset the module, you must have both doors open when you disconnect the battery
