High Pressure Power Steering hose?

rockauto .com has it for $30. I looked up a 2003 (just guessing) says it fits non-turbo 03-09

And you'll need 'line wrenches' to remove, it'll be very, very fun

I'm going to have to buy some duct tape.

The installation look painful. It says you have to move the A/C compressor!

There was a recall on the 2001-2005 cruiser for that hose rubbing against the transaxle case and maybe causing a fire. I'd look to see if your PT had that recall done. If that's the cause of the leak it will be fixed for free.

The power steering pressure hose on your PT Cruiser (VIN: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)
may contact the transaxle dif ferential cover. Prolonged power steering hose
contact can cause the hose to rub through and leak power steering fluid. Power
steering fluid leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in an
underhood fire

Thank you all very much for the help! I was freaking out a little because it seemed like a lot of work for something so simple.

Crewzin: Thank you for the tip. I checked but Chrysler's website says that my car was not included in the recall. Bummer.

On closer inspection, it seems that the hose is not ruined it's just that the clamp is no longer holding it. Here is a picture:

I'll give it a try and see if I can put it back together.

There is also a screw missing right next to the transmission fluid pan. I don't even know what kind of screw. Anyone knows what it is?

Once again thank you for your help. I feel it's necessary to learn about your cars even if you end up using a professional so I really appreciate the education!

I don't think your missing a screw. I believe that's where they screw something in to hold the casting when they make the mold for whatever part it is. Something like that. I'm missing it also and all the pictures I can bring up of the undercarriage has the same hole. Maybe it's where they screw some sort of jack when they drop the engine/transaxle. That seems more likely.

Is that a big dent in your mom's tranny pan??? Maybe she's hit something and that's causing these issues?

That black rubber sleeve is supposed to keep the one metal clamp from rubbing on the hose and it appears the mark on the hose may be a wear mark. Unfortunately, this is a high pressure hose and duct won't hold the pressure. If you wipe off that area to get it dry, start the car and run the steering in both directions and then check to see if fluid leaks anywhere after you turn it off, you will see fresh power steering oil there if the hose is leaking. Also, your power steering fluid should be getting low.

And Chromenut is right. That is a wicked hit to the transmission pan. You will need to dry that area very well. Use parts cleaner, brake cleaner, or even paint thinner and confirm you don't have a little leak right at the dent.

Crewzin: I just assumed that I was missing some sort of plug because the fluid leak appears to be around that area. Thanks for setting me straight. One less thing to worry about.

Chromenut: I noticed the dent but it didn't seem to me at the time to be a big deal. I'll definitely take a closer look.

cjb15:Thank you for the instructions! I'll follow them and see if I find the leak. The steering fluid doesn't seem to be disappearing but just looking at the photos, it does look like liquid is spraying around that hose. It would really suck if it was the hose because the procedure seems to be really long and complicated. Hopefully the problem is the pan.
