Have you actually had the battery checked to see if it's holding a full charge? If it's not putting out about 11.8 volts you'll get nowhere trying to start the engine.

Hooking another battery up for a jump start is sometimes pretty tricky. If it's not making real good contact on the positive and negative side, the charge from the good source won't get to where it needs to be.

Would clean battery post connections also. This would hamper all your previous efforts. My not be getting enough power to crank & fire engine at the same time. If your battery isn't making a good connection your boost won't ether. As CREWZIN stated in his post. After you get your battery issues taken care of and still won't start check to see if getting spark to the plugs.

Flooded-cell batteries are notorious for causing invisible corrosion problems in the lightweight battery clamps in use on many cars, like our PTs. They seem to emit an acid mist in the vicinity of the battery.

Beginning with the negative terminal, remove it and clean both the inside of the terminal clamp and the battery terminal. Leaving it disconnected, do the same to the positive side. But if the battery is old for your area, it would be worth getting it tested. (Around here, a flooded cell battery--even a Sears Diehard--is toast at 12 t0 20 months. They last longer in other climates.)

If the battery is good, charge it up. While it is charging, inspect the cables coming from the battery closely and carefully, from end to end, and inside the relay box. A bad connection on any of them can cause the problem you describe. The corrosion can even be inside the insulation of the cable so check carefully. If the terminals and the battery tray were a corroded mess, I suspect that may be where your problem is.
