Default Belt noise - but all belts just replaced...

Hi all,

So last week my PT was taken apart and the timing, alternator and power steering belts all replaced.

The PT is a 2004 Export (UK) model 2.4 litre auto.
It's only done 30k miles so these were replaced on age reasons rather than mileage.

Before replacing them I was getting a squealing noise when first starting the car - much worse on cold/wet days, which passed after about 5-10 mins driving until the next day.

When the belts were replaced the tensioner was checked but found to be fine (I do have one in the garage waiting to be needed).

So new belts on and it was pretty quiet until today when it was really icy and snowy and it squealed for just around 30 seconds when I first started the engine.

Anything that could have been missed to prevent this?

Thanks,
Steve

Try tightening the alternator belt more. Mine stretched slightly after some miles were put on and started squealing like you describe. I tightened the belt a bit and it's been fine since.

Right on the money. Better to sneak up on it than to over-tighten.
