Post Need Help Identifying Something... asap please.

Okay guys...

Sorry to ask for answers in such a hurry but, I need to get my head to the machine shop before 1pm tomorrow so i can find out Monday if i need to order a new one or have them start rebuilding this one.

Today i started the "tear down" of my '01 PT Limited.
I got every thing removed from the head, except for the timing...
my problem and questions start here.

I have included some photo's if that will help any.

1.) There is a Torque bit bolt behind the front passenger tire. It looks to me like it goes in to the timing. What is it? whats it for? Why is it not mentioned any where in the "tear down/rebuild" manual? Does it effect removing the head?

2.) Is there a upgraded head gasket for the PT's?

3.) Whats the best "engine gasket set for our PT's?

If i think of anything else i will add it on here. Thanks guys for any and all help.

Yes sir. I went yesterday and bought one, It's a T55 Torque hex.
So it's like a third motor mount?
I tried last night to turn it but it wouldn't give at all. Both the upper and lower mounts had broken in the past.
Could that have caused a problem with this "strut mount"?

Thank You for your help.

A lot of us get our parts from RockAuto Auto Parts especially for the parts we need for the timing belt change. I'm sure they'll have any gasket sets you need.

I can't identify the bolt in your picture but maybe you can by seeing this picture below of the front of the engine without the covers on it.

The mount that it goes through is bolted to the fender well. So I dont know. But thank you for the pic. It will be helpful on the rebuild.

I also order most parts from RockAuto. Cheapest! I have a commercial account with Advance and ive noticed alot of parts from rockauto are the same parts Advance offers. So i spoke with a District manager, and he said he would price match with rock auto as long as the part numbers are the same and i include the shipping cost.. Pretty cool , huh?

Just asking cause I know our PT's are picky about certain after market parts.

That bolt is for the actual engine mount. It goes through a rubber mount and the large cast iron piece that the upper torque strut bolts to and into the engine block. In order to change the timing belt you have to remove that bolt and the iron mount.

You should be able to remove the bolt with he T55 torx bit and a 1/2" breaker bar.

My torx bit is 3/8 drive. I couldnt find one to fit my breaker bar, which is 1/2".
So I tryd like H@!L last night to break it loose, but couldnt.
Would it break easier if I jack the block up a tiny bit?

lifting the engine slightly might help, can't hurt to try...

do you have an adapter to fit the 3/8" socket on a 1/2" drive? or a piece of pipe to slide over the smaller wrench to make it longer for more leverage...
