Default Crank Thrust Bearing

Folks,
Is there any sort of fix or upgrade regarding the Crank Thrust Bearing? Just had the joy of having my crank oil seal come out twice in less than a month. After seeing multiple posts about crank end play knocking out oil seals, I had my mechanic check my crank (over .02" end play). Took bottom off engine and found thrust bearing wiped out on one face and crank side chewed up. Surprised to see that Chrysler only puts a thrust bearing on the top half. I have always seen a top and bottom on other cars.
Is there some sort of upgraded Thrust Bearing/Crank upgrade to fix this once and for all.

Thanks

Are the crankwalk engines in stick shift cars? That is the case where I've seen it on other brands. Pressing on the clutch pedal pushes pressure plate against the flywheel, loading the thrust bearing. It's especially damaging during engine startup where the oil pressure hasn't built up. If it's a stick shift only issue, that would explain the low percentage of total engines that have the failure.
