Default discharging the ac

im getting ready to begin rebuilding my pt with front end damage the condenser radiator and cooling fan are shoved back almost to the engine (missed the manifold) i cant move the car this way and need to know if its very hard to discharge the ac so i can replace the condenser. i bought the condenser, accumalator, and new lines from the center block to the condenser and bought a haynes manual but it doesnt say how to do this and i know many do this themselves any advice would be helpful

Personally I would say, if the condenser and radiator are pushed back to the engine from front end damage, the AC system is already "discharged". I would find it hard to believe that it would still have anything in it if it's damaged that bad. If not you would have to have a mechanic or refrigeration tech recover the 134a out of it.

good luck, let us know how it goes!

Almost nobody can discharge the refrigerant themselves from the A/C system because they don't have the equipment as Fabreezai just said. It's illegal to just let it go out into the atmosphere but as was just said, you might have already lost it due to the crash. That can't be helped.

I would just disconnect one of the lines to the compressor. You really have no choice. If the system has leaked away, it isnt a problem. If not it will leak out.

In the big sceam of things, most systems will leak and vent to atmosphere at some point in the life of the car. Cant tell you how many times I have had systems on my various cars leak due to issues.

Think of it(if it leaks) as a salute to Al Gore

IF you suppose it is discharged and disconnect a hose, be ready to open the door of your garage(or have it already open, even better) and go away of the smoke that will go out of the system(if it does), and when you disconnect the hose take your distances and wear glasses, refrigerant is really not fun to have on you and breath

one time we was pulling the motor out of a jetta and when cutting a rusted bolt the buffer has bitten and cut an AC line near of the bolt, the garage got all filled with smoke in a matter of seconds, not a fun time at all
