Default 2008 died when I put it in park, now nothing

I have a 2008 pt cruiser, when I popped it in park the other day it died.
I rushing put it in park ,to run inside and grab my phone, and notice it died.
When I came back to leave I noticed the flashers where on???
I possibly hit the button putting it in park, not sure. I turned off the flashers and tried to start it, nothing. I tried neutral, nothing. All of the electronics work, lights, radio ect. By nothing I mean to mechanical action under the hood, no clicking no straining ect.. I believe it must be something in he transmission since seemingly the action of putting it in park started the problem. Perhaps it jumped timing , neutral sensor or some other safty switch issue.

Does this car have the ability to flash the hazards to indicate a malfunction?
Or possibly I did hit the button with my knuckles.

Any help or advice would be appreciated, thanks.

If it makes no noise at all I think you may be on to something far as the neutral safety switch. Check that the sifter cable is indeed moving the lever on the transition. Not seen any problems with the switch it self unless damaged in an accident. Hazards most likely accidental.

Thanks for the advice, I will look for the cable tomorrow. I wasn't sure if I wanted to start pulling the center console apart quite yet to look for a cable.
I wasn't sure if it would be a mechanic link or a electrical switch.

Also I learned how to check the OBD codes since my post. It came back with no codes or errors. So I'm more inclined to think its something like the linkage , that isn't monitored by the computer.

You might look under the battery where the linkage connects to the tranny.
