Default Now what? Sputtering stopped

Ok, had another thread about my 04 Cruiser sputtering at idle. replaced the IAC and that problem has gone away. Quick run down on all thats been done.
1. Cam and crack sensors replaced
2. Plugs and plug wires replaced
3. Oil Sensor replaced
4. IAC replaced.
5. Seafoam in the gas tank. Also ran a full tank of High Octane.

The sputtering at idle is all but gone. Idle is smooth and takes off just fine.
Now when I was on the freeway this afternoon it started acting like it was starved for fuel. Give it the gas...get up and goes, then drops off like its thirsty, then kicks back in. Any thoughts on what the heck this new malady might be?

Thanks a ton!

E

How many miles on your Cruiser? Did you use OEM sensors or "off the shelf" at auto zone, pep boys, etc.? Did you do a fuel pressure check? Fuel pressure should be about 58psi (+/- 2psi). That's what I would check first. Make sure you use a good/accurate gauge.

62 K miles. No fuel pressure check. Have to see if my local Kragen has a gauge I can borrow to check it out. If it is not within those parameters what should I look at next?

I would check the gas cap first. Then the fuel pump, Could be a bad check ball in it, filter, crud in the tank. Unfortunately you have to drop the tank to replace it, comes as a whole assembly, is about $300 and is a pain in the butt to do without the proper tools and a lift. hope it helps. Let us know.

Normally most fuel pumps That I've come across have lasted about 100k before they were giving out, but then again......... Just trying to give you a direction to go in if I was trouble shooting it. Fuel pressure check is going to tell you if you are in the right direction.

You said check the fuel cap. How so? Take it off and back on to ensure tight fit? Or go buy a new one LOL.

make sure it's on correctly and tight (at least 3 clicks). Then do the fuel pressure check. Did you change all the sensors with OEM ones or aftermarket?

As far as a fuel pressure check, I would go to a local mechanic and ask if they can do you a favor and check it, takes about 5 min. to do, make sure you have a 6 pack of beer with you, 98% of all mechanics drink beer! and you might be able to ask for "small" favors in the future!
