Question Head gasket question

I would like to replace the Head gasket of the engine in my PT Cruiser. It is a 2.0 16V ('00) ECC engine. I bought a new gasket, but I found a big difference between the oem ant the new gasket at the oil sinkhole area:

I looked for this old type gasket in the webshops here in Hungary, but all of them sells this other style. I can find similar gasket on photos in the online catalogs, but they are offered for Neon and Stratus models with other engine code. Are that gaskets compatible with my engine? When did Chrysler change this engine block style?

First, none of us in the US have even seen a 1.6-

Second, this is exactly what has occurred on out 2.4's-
1995-2001 had the gasket with the small drainback hole, 2002 & up had the larger hole.

Based on only this info, I'd guess the gasket you got was too new.
We use Rockauto.com for such 'detective' work, they have fitment guides for each part.

Do you have the the factory parts manual?

Thank you for the answer!

My car not 1.6 - it is 2.0 (produced for the European market in Mexico, engine code: ECC) and I think, that it has the same head gasket as 2.4.

I already read the factory parts manual ( It was the first I did), but unfortunately the factory code of the gasket seems to be changed in each year.

Anyway this is a new information for me, that there was an upgrade on the engine block.

Today finally I realised that there is a bug in the online catalog of the car parts distributor in my country. The new style gasket was recommended for all PT Cruser 2.0&2.4 models - not only for the 2002- models.

Later I found the right gasket for me in the catalog of the gasket company. Then I found this gasket also in the catalog of the local car parts distributor, but it was recommended only for Chrysler Sebring. I made a complain in the shop, and they will change it tomorrow

'Drew,

Sorry,
for some reason I read 1.6L ...
Now we see how mistakes are made ...

If it's a 2L DOHC any '95 -'99 should work

No problem - my English should be better

I already have this old style headgasket in my hands - the dealer changed it!

Anyway - the 1.6L engine was not popular in Europe. I heard that It has many problem and it is too small for such a big car like the PT Cruiser. I think that the most popular combination in Europe was equipped with the 2.2 CRD MB engine. The other popular choice was the 2.0 16V. The taxes of the 2.4 version are usually high in the European countries, that is why the 2.0 is more popular .

On the largest European used car ad site the rate of 1.6 engine is under 10%

Yes, they had the coveted 4.12 final drive gears- Neon owners go nuts for this
ratio- IMHO it's such a small margin between 3.94 and 4.12 it's insignificant
