Default new here...brake pedal won't depress when cold???

New to the site and have a question....06 PT Cruiser with 30k miles. In the morning when I start the car, let it run for a little bit to warm up, then back out of the driveway, the brake pedal is extremely hard to depress and I have no brakes....had to use the E brake a few times. After the initial no brakes, they work fine. Started doing it a few months ago, and does it every time after its been sitting overnight. Any ideas what the problem could be? Thanks in advance!

We also have a 2006, but with 95K miles, and ours does the exact same thing on a cold morning. If it's above a certain temp, they work fine. We never had it looked at. My husband steps on the brake pedal a couple times before backing out, and that gets the brakes working. I'd be curious to see if anyone knows what the problem is...

Sounds like the vacuum booster is bad. You get that same feeling when the motor dies when you try to stop a power brake car.

There's a check valve (in any car I've seen) whee the hose goes in the PB
grommet.
The PB should store vacuum- so if the engine dies you can still stop.

I'd guess the little rubber disc has failed, and is allowing vacuum to bleed back overnite

Thanks for the replies. How can I check the rubber disc? Take the little piece the hoses connect to off?

My 07 does the same thing, I pump the break pedal 3 or 4 times in the morning, and it is ok. Where exactly is his rubber disc and how do you replace it?

It's called:

Quote:
5142501AA CHECK VALVE, Brake Booster,
With Grommet
It's on the power booster, prly 11 'oclock from the front end
couple hoses going to it.

Please ensure this is the correct part before ordering,Links to Chromes factory parts manuals are in my signature-

Also ensure power booster isn't leaking!
