Default Can the PT engine be pulled from the top?

I have a 2001 PT Cruiser and want to do an engine rebuild. However, it seems most literature I've read states the engine has to be removed from underneath the car. I don't have access to a lift and don't know how I would be able to raise the car high enough to be able to remove the engine (at home). Has anyone actually pulled the engine out from the top? If so, how hard is it to do? Any tips would be appreciated.

If you can lift the engine out of the engine bay. Why can't you lift the front end of the car off the engine the same way?

its much easier to drop the motor plus tranny from bottom take the after u undone the motor mounts and both axles set the body down on some 2/10s undo the trans back mount should be able to raise the body up and slide the motor out:
