Default Power steering

So has anyone else had any problems with the power steering? Also overheating? A week ago, My power steering pump went out for the 2nd time in just over a year. I had a buddy help me fix it and it worked great for a while. Then my wife and I noticed it was making the same noise as it did before it went out. So is it just me or is this a problem for anyone else?

Maybe your reservoir screen is stopped up? What's overheating?

The temp guage on the dash says it's overheating. However, I'll drive for a bit and it goes down and remains normal for the rest of the ride.

As far as the power steering goes, would having the screen stopped up make it spew fluid all over the ground?

I think it was a reman, but I can't be sure. It's going to be put into a shop that has had several recommendations from friends. I'm hoping this really fixes the problem and he can get his hands on a new pump. At least one with a warranty as well.

As far as the overheating, I think you're right. It could be time to replace it as this one is sticking. I used to have the same problem in an old '97 Lumina.

No problem with the power steering pump but had to replace the power steering rack a couple of months ago - leaking - couldn't pass MO state inspection. 57,500 miles.

Well this happened to be an easier fix than what I was originally thinking. Took it to a friends trusted mechanic. Checked out the car and it was a minor problem. One of the hoses had managed to work its way off of the pump, and it had a busted O-ring. That was all. =)
