littoe FOAM filter in airbox?

Question little FOAM filter in airbox?

so i put in my new k&n filter last night............i noticed that the little foam filter on the side of the airbox is basically black.......does this need to be changed out from time to time? it looks crappy, i figure if its there, then its gotta have a part number right? anyone know what it is or if it should even be changed?

wash it out with Dawn dish detergent. It works on ducks

If I remember right it's at the end of the hose connected to the PCV valve so it's there to absorb any dirty oily particles in the air hence the reason it's black.

Mine is totally gone since I've removed the stock air box:

dosent your set up suck in the hot engin air??? Im just asking all i have done is drop in a K&M drop in filter

Yea, I wondered the same thing--like what did you do about the PCV air line hooked to the little filter.

And for the record, cleaning the little filter in my '03 turbo didn't work--it came all apart. I just made one from a piece of foam rubber of about the same density. Previous threads have reported that Chrysler doesn't even seem to know it exists when you try to buy one from a dealer.

That's true. I even carried mine in to the parts department and showed it to them. No luck. I bought a "universal" one from O'Reilly's but it didn't really fit well. I had to double it up and cram it in the holder. I finally cleaned the original one as well as I could and put it back in. I'm going to get some foam at the local Army Surplus store and make one.
