Default Check engine code p0340

i have a 2003 pt cruiser.. for the past month the car would shake and the check engine light would come on. I never checked to see what the problem was. The other day it happened again but this time the car stalled and would not start. Did a lot of surfing and learned how to check the code. It came up p0340, No cam Signal. My Ex which was an Chrysler tech for over 20 years said it was the starter. Had AAA come and said the same, took it to the repair shop and again they said it was the starter. He changed it and guess what ... The car didnt crank. Before i go crazy i need to know that the cam shaft will not allow the car to crank. Because 3 tech told me its the starter. Thanks in advance for you time.

Simple search brings up your problem.

It's the camshaft position sensor or crankshaft whatever it is (someone will correct me, both commonly go out).

Get an OEM Mopar replacement only! Not an autozone/etc. after-market sensor.

PS Don't trust techs to know everything; I've met some of the dumbest mechanics ever come from dealerships.

You'd be surprised how often women are ignored when it comes to cars/mechanical problems.

I've educated a few of my female friends greatly when it comes to working on their own cars but when the problem was too much for them they'd take it to a mechanic if I was too busy. Sure enough, they would hear alot of BS from said-mechanic.

A camshaft sensor tells the computer when number one compression stroke is happening, the crank sensor tell the computer when to fire the sparkplugs.

Without it the car will NOT start.
