Default Steering rack...

I think it may be time for a new/rebuilt steering rack in my 2002 Touring as it keeps barfing out the fluid. I see several racks in the Rock Auto catalog and references made to codes on the Body Plate. I can't find any of the mentioned codes (SBB or SBA) to determine which rack I need. They list one for auto trans and another looks to be for auto trans with "firm feel steering" and/or the 5 speed with "standard steering". I'm assuming I need the latter but want to make sure...

Never mind...

I discovered that what looks to be the high pressure line at the rack end was loose! It had backed off probably 3/4 turn. This will be a first for me - to have the simplest and cheapest fix apply to something I'm working on!!! Bye-bye Mr. Murphy...

strange that the line would loosen up... has there been any work done on the steering system? maybe the line wasn't tightened up after that...

I thought it very strange as well - I have never had a line of this type loosen in this manner. I do all of the maintenance and repair on this and the only time I've ever touched anything on the steering was to replace some pressure switch/sensor a couple years ago. Another strange aspect was that this appeared to happen overnight.
