Default EGR Valve p0401

Whats up? I started out with with four codes on my 01 limited. My problems was skipping when in idle and around 50 mph. After changing the spark plugs and cleaning the egr valve with some carbon spray. The skipping stop and I got my power back, But after driving about 50 -60 miles I heard the ding noise but no light came on. So when I got home I did the key thing and got p1684 and 0401 again. My question is should i worry about this? Should I change it out asap. I didn't notice any changes or hear anything while driving.

I didn't see you say anything about the plug wires. They go bad along with the plugs themselves. After changing them, take off the negative battery cable to reset the computer and clear the old codes.

I left out a few things, I did. Changing the wires and I mixed baking soda and water together to get the acid build up off the battery cables.(code 1594) After doing that my lights didn't go dim again and I had the battery tested which was good. I did the rest with the battery after changing the spark plugs but the 0401 code came back on. Do you think i need to change it out asap and do that effect the gas mileage a lot?(EGR valve) I read some where you should smell more fuel in the exhaust if its really bad.

Yes, a bad EGR valve will have an affect on your mileage.

One of my old answers:

code P0401

That being said, on a full tank of gas my mileage is around 235-240 in town and thats below the 1/4 of tank line before I refill. Do that sound about right to you or should I get about 20 more mile on a full tank? (18-20mpg in town)Fill my tank up from about the e line I can only get about 13 galllons in.

There such a difference in everybody on this forum about gas mileage it's hard to say what the average should be. Wanna feel bad; I'm in Virginia right now visiting my Grandkids working from my ipod. Door to door my house in Florida to my sons house here in Midlothian is 744 miles. I only had to stop for gas ONCE in my wife's Ford Focus. Still had 1/3 of a tank left when we got here. When I used to take the PT i had to stop twice on the way up and another time when I got here because it was low.
