Default just arrived

Well I just signed up and allready I have a question about my crusier. I'm a 65 year old retiree from Texas. Are there any resident experts out there with expertise with alternators. I'm rather a slep with forums so if I do something wrong just let me know.

Please be more specific. What do you want to know about your alternator?

Just a little background: I just finished replaceing the head gasket and everything went fine until I started the engine and the Alt. light stayed on. the Crusier has been down about three months.

Alternators will seize within days of being exposed to elements.
Perhaps this occurred during those months, or severe corrosion?

That sucks, changing the alt is a PITA in these things, you practically have to disassemble the passenger side of the vehicle.
Non Turbo, Automatic Transmission 2003 Touring Edition, 104,xxx miles so far. Extras- cruise control, fog lights, sun roof, rear defroster, ABS, rear disk brakes, six speaker sound system, power locks, power windows, A.C., window tint, locking glove box. My personal mods so far- removed white air restricter, white hibiscus flowers sticker above the rear hatch lock, nice white primer/rust splotch underneath the passenger side tail light from bodywork...more to come once the money starts flowing freer and the car is payed off

my dads ALT seized while i did the timing belt job. 4 days of tinkering and it was seized. bummer... but all i did was spray some WD_40 on it & in it grabbed ahold of it with some huge channel locks and viola. free!! and no flat spots on the aramature of bad spots in the bearings. prolly worth a shot. we got over 15k on his and still opperating strong!!!
if it moves and not supposed to... duct tape!!!
if it dont move and is supposed to... WD-40!!!

The car has been sitting for about three months. I have only 12v at the battery. I checked for voltage going into the alt. and have 12v. I can’t determine any voltage coming out. It is hard for me to believe the alt. just went bad from sitting. Any help determining if the alt is in deed bad would be greatly appreciated since it is a bear to get out. Is there any one with actual hands on that can give some advice. The alt is not siezed up it just is not chargeing the battery. I have checked all the connections and they seem to be fine.....unless I have missed one!! Oh! I'm from Chandler.

Seems like you would hear it if the alt was seized. Possibly a ground short somewhere is causing a drain, or something like that. I would find an auto electric shop and have them chase everything.
