back doors wont open?
Not sure if this is the right section but I have a slight problem withe the back doors. I can't get them open. I've taken the interior cover off but can't seem to get them to come open. I've pulled on the lock mechanism and handle bar. The handle bar seems to have some play in it but everything is attached. I discovered the outside handle did nothing and had to manually move the switch. Still nothing happened door still wont open and soaked it in liquid wrench. Has anyone encountered this problem before? Any and all help is appreciated like always thanks!

Re: back doors wont open?
You know about the kiddie locks on the edge of the doors, right?

Re: back doors wont open?
Yeah but the outside handles aren't working the button pushes in with no resistance. I tried it manually but no luck there and honestly I've never used the child locks before Haha

Re: back doors wont open?
Is there a way to disengage the latch or child lock from inside the door itself?

Re: back doors wont open?
Have the doors been shut / locked for a long time?
I had something similar on a parts car. Took me over 2 hours to get one of them open. The other finally unlocked after I jerked up on the unlock knob about 50 times. They were just gummed up from being closed and locked for a long time. |

As was said in the posts above, your locks probably just need lubed and loosened up. If it was my PT, I would lube every pivot point I could see and also the ones I couldn't. In particular the ones that come off of the lock body itself, inside the leading edge (locking point) on the door. I wouldn't use anything other than WD-40. It contains silicone of course, but also solvents that are safe on paint. That's important, because you will envariably get some of it onto the paint as the excess flows out the bottom of the door. It will easily wash off after opening the door. By the way, if it doesn't flow out the bottom of the door, you haven't used enough yet.:p:D Also, just a side question. Do you have electronic locks?;):D Jerry |

Re: back doors wont open?
A friend of mine had this problem after he bought his pt used. He had to use a skinny punch and a hammer to free it I think.
It was lack of use and lubrication. I think in the service manual it says about lubing the doors and locks good. |
