Default Timing Belt Broke- Are Values Bent?

Hello:

I have a 2004 PT cruiser limited edition turbo 2.4L and my timing belt broke this morning on the way to work.
The dealership told me that the values might be bent?
I thought this type of engine the values do not bend when the belt breaks.

So, I need help/advice.

Has anyone run across a 2004 PT where the timing belt has broken and the values were bent?

Any help is appreciated.

This probaly has to be the #1 asked question on this board which is ok thats why its here
so here is your answer

#1 The Engin in a PT cruser is a NON INTERFERANCE engin
#2 That means that when the TB breaks the Valvues CAN NOT hit the pistons
#3 In some VERRY rare events the Valvues CAN hit each other
#4 That may or may not bend a valvue
#5 There is no way to tell Untill AFTER you do the T/B and can run a compression Check
#6 I thnik it has been said that of the hundreds that have broke a T/B under acceleration that only like 2-3 ever bent the Valvues

So to sum it up there is a better than average chance that you are ok
The dealerships are BIG TIME on scarring people inot thinking they need a new head.new engin, new car whatever

When or if you replace the T/B go ahead and replace the water pump the T/B tensioners and id change the serpintine belt you are already there and the cost in minimual

Just my opinion other will chime in but thats how I see your sitution you shopu;d be good to do the T/B and drive away
One more thing the T/B should be between $900-$1200 anything more you are being riped

Thank you so much.
The dealership quoted me $1150.

And they did call back to say the tech has never seen the values bent on this type of engine when the t/b breaks.

So all signs seem to point in the ok arena.

Thanks!!!

I know is the right miles, but I've seen a lot of people breaking it at 130k miles or more and a few at 80k...My wife's 01 N/A had 125k miles when I replaced it.

Thanks for posting this; I had been wondering how much a dealer would charge, and this is about what I guessed. My 2003 turbo only has 65k miles on it, but even though it isn't close to the 90K miles where the owner's manual says to replace the belt, I have been a little conceded about its age.
