Default Timing belt shield, belt replacement.

So here's a few questions real quick.

1. How hard is it to replace the timing belt?
and
2. How the hell do you get that damn belt shield off?

1. How hard is it-----about "8" hours of hard.

2. We have several very comprehensive "how-to's" here on this site. They all give very precise instructions on how to do this job. THREE of them are in the "how-to" sticky directly above this thread.

what wwpptc said X 2
It is simply the hardest job on a PT by far
it will bust your knuckles
it will make you pull your hair
when it is done it will most likely still be out of time
you will sware that the marks are lined up---they WONT BE
you will have to redo it and its no easier the second time

If you are having trouble with the Timing Belt cover save yourself and dont even think about doing the belt

the parts are in the under $300 range--TB water Pump tensioners serpintine belt) the labor is arounf $900

If you are a christan it will amke you question your faith in God
if not a christan you will double your belife in Santan

Just wondering what your car is, were your from and do you have a clear title to it? Just in case you don't get it back together.

Wow, ok then. Sounds like I should just get rid of it then. And yes, I have a clean title to it. LoL

Up here, if it isn't rusty, it's worth an EZ $3k even an '01.
Prolly lots more if you're a good seller.
If it's broke ...

IF you disconnect exhaust pipe, jacking up engine makes it easier.
AC and one PS line (IIRC) run right in front of timing gears, so that's not fun.

What I hate the most when doing the belt (and used every cuss word I could think of plus even invented new ones) , was the lack of room to work on a PT Cruiser. Next to impossible to get your hands/fingers in there.

I almost pulled out my torch and cut off the front end. I'm not afraid of hard work but the next time (if I still have it) I will take it to the Dealer.

Life is too short...

Thank God this Forum exists.... it helped me out alot.

If you don't feel you can get it back together. Then pay someone or like you said!

Got a friend with mechanical skills that could assist you?
