Default A/C trouble

At the end of last summer, the compressor would kick on and off real fast while stopped with the engine idling. It would blow cold as long as the car was moving. Figured it had to do with the fan. Now, the a/c blows warm and the compressor doesnt seem to be engaging at all.

Any common problems going on with the pt's??

you say you figured it was the fan. did you replace the fan? if not, that's the route i would go. replaced it on the wife's 2001 and the a/c started working.

Recycling of the computer at a fast pace usually means your low in R134a. Has the levels been checked?

No I have not replaced the fan. Don't want to replace the fan until I know the fan is causing the problem.
I do not have a set of guages, so, no I have not checked the refrigerant either.

Just wondering if there were any common problems with the a/c.

I have heard of the 'rough idle' problem with the a/c on at idle, caused by the compressor engaging and disengaging. What is that being traced to? low refrigerant? faulty low pressure sensor? faulty fan?

There's no particular one thing that is wrong with the A/C. Owners have had the recycling switch go bad, the high pressure switch go bad, a leak in one of the lines causing low pressure and mostly one of the speeds of the radiator fan going out which causes overheating of the compressor. Take your pick. It has to be diagnosed and either a part has to be replaced or refrigerant has to be added. You can't just sit there and ask questions and get a 100% accurate answer unless something shows itself as a fault..like the fan not working.

Mohave, the most common problem with a PT's A/C not blowing cold while at idle--but blowing cold while on the highway--especially with a rough idle at idle ... is the fan.

Check you fan, using the How-To section in this forum, on how to check your fan.

By the way, if you've been using your A/C a lot with the fan not working well, you can rupture an A/C line.

Yeah... wasn't expecting a 100% answer.
Just wanted to know if there were any common problems,... aside from owning a chrysler product.
