Default Head Milled .040" Custom Headgasket?

Rebuilding my 2.4 NA, got new head that has been milled .040". Which is a good bit to me, looking to get a custom headgasket made, probably from Cometic.

3 questions,

has anyone ever used a stock HG after milling off this much? i know piston to valve issues, compression and cam timing issues. but did it run without codes?

The 2.4 Turbo and NA motors are different but what about headgaskets? I can run down to the store and compare myself just wondering.

has anyone got a headgasket made for the 2.4 na? from what company?

One of these days i'll post a build thread. nothing special thou.

Tell you the truth, I'm not sure anyone here has mentioned getting their head cut down like that. If you don't get an answer here, I can suggest PTCrew.com as an alternate - over there you'll meet lots of people who have done some serious mods to their engines. Just be careful, they are like a pack of piranha over there, if you goof up or act stupid, they'll attack you like a feeding frenzy! Seriously, I started at that site and moved here because of their behavior.

You can mill head lots more than that, AND remove headgasket shim-
2.4 has lots of room, piston is way, way down in chamber.
You can 'clay' piston to check for clearance.

We've done lots and lots of milling on these;

Fel-pro may make a thicker gasket, they have in past for this engine family.

You need to ensure cams turn freely when head/caps are torqued- just because deck is straight now, doesn't mean cam journals are.

so .040" is not a big deal, just use the stock HG?

When i laid the cams in the journals to see if they would teater, they were good.

it'll raise compression about 1/2 point (my guesstimate).
Experiment with knock retard readings vs ambient temp vs. octane.

cam has a tight thrust surface, diff for em to rock.
Just zip down caps, it'll take you ten minutes.

DCR sells a super headgasket for high boost applications but has been reported its 2 headgaskets riveted together.I know in the old days shops would use 2 gaskets stacked to lower pressure and get better seals

Yes- We remove shims everytime we swap heads on the 2.0's:

Don't see why you couldn't add them.

It seems Fel-pro does change their composition every few years, so you'll need to look at what comes in package
