Default parking brake light going on???

Hey All,

Been having this problem for a few days now. Not sure if it's just the cold weather, but tell me what you think.

I have the auto-stick, and rarely park on an incline, so I don't usually use the parking brake. But lately, every time I'm accelerating from a stop (traffic lights, stop signs), the parking brake indicator light goes on. I check to make sure that the brake is all the way off, and it is.

Any ideas? I am due for service in about 2000 miles, but I don't want to wait if this could be a real problem. [xx(]

Thanks!

Your brakes are wearing and more fluid is now in the hydraulic system lowering the level in the reservoir. When you accelerate the fluid level drops enough to activate the sensor. Although the light comes on when you activate the emergency brake, it is also w low fluid light. You can add some more fluid to the reaservoir and it will stop or you can do brakes and it will stop. Your brakes probably have more wear remaining on them but if you add fluid be sure to take it back out before you compress the caliper pistons (or brake cylinder pistons depending on your model) when you do brakes or it will back up out of the top of the reservoir and make a mess.

good luck

Yobiebs - Did adding fluid solve this problem? I haven't hardly driven mine in the past two weeks.I just rolled over 20k miles on it.The temps have been in the 30s at night, 50s in the day. This evening I got in it and drove a little bit, and I noticed when I accelerated hard, like WOT, that the Brake Light came on and a chime sounded for just a second.I thought the fluid may be low too, but when i checked it, at a stop, it's level with the seam in the master cylinder, between add and full.Past experience tells me the light usually only comes on for low fluid when it's *really* low, so I wanted to check and see what your outcome was.

Yup, Cal Cruzer is right on. My light would come on periodically, and I bought new brakes - when I changed the pads, they were only half worn! Dunno whether they have them for GT, But I put on Raybestos ceramic pads & love them - already have more miles on them then I got from stock pads, they work great, and NO DUST. I now have over 71,000 miles on my PT.

Thanks to the forum and the suggestions by all. This is my problem with my 03 and with only 30K miles I was getting worried. I shall replace pads.

Welcome, Mr Ed.
Don't get the stock pads, nearly any replacement gives less dust - the ceramics are great!

Got the Ceramic ADO AD-7716 from Napa this morning.
It worked like a charm
No more brake light on and I'm gonna reduce my dust. Thanks for the forums and to the active people here also.

Heres one on me.
Ed
