Default Stupid question: How do I get the radiator cap off?

This is a really stupid question but how do I get the radiator cap off? I was trying to take a look at the coolant level in the radiator for the first time and I cannot get the freakin' cap off!! I grab and turn,it almost comes off, but for some reason it won't. So the question is, is there a trick or something here?

After you turn it (lefty-loosy), push down and turn some more. It will come right off.

Push down while turning.

You need to push down while turning. Make sure you do this with a cool engine or you'll get a face full of antifreeze. Normally you check coolant level in the reservoir with a cold engine as the cooling process will draw coolant into the radiator.

Man you guys type fast LOL

So glad the poster asked this, I was having the same problem; I'll try again later.
As for the reservoir: with cold engine I don't seem to see any of the coolant in there. Is this normal? My mechanic topped the coolant last august, I thought I was already on the safe side. Am I missing something?

Thanks!

The coolant in the reservoir is sometimes really hard to see, especially if it's down at the COLD mark. If you check it at night, shine a small flashlight into the reservoir opening and the reservoir itself should light up all the way down to the coolant in the bottle so you can see the level. If your seeing nothing, your probably a bit low; open the radiator cap (when cold), top it off with the correct coolant, close the cap and add the rest to the reservoir to the cold mark. If you have to add a lot, you'll proobably going to have to bleed the system of excess air.

I is also helpful to remember these 2 things: "There are normally no stupid questions, only stupid answers." & "The only stupid question,is the one you don't ask before screwing something up!"

Saw a joke about that the other day, it went like this: Whoever said there's no such thing as a stupid question, probably never worked in Customer Service.

Don't get me started...there should be a comedy show about an auto parts store!
And I did not even mention a auto parts wholesale warehouse supplier either. You think retails walkins have some interesting questions you should answer a few calls from what are suppose to be professionals in the business.

I have been reading a lot about owners and not being able to see the coolant in the resistor. Try a couple drops of red food coloring in a cup of water and pouring it into the the reservoir. It will NOT harm the antifreeze and you will see if there is any fluid and at what level the coolant in the reservoir is at.
