Default Maybe a stupid question but does the 05 GT have an oil filter?

Wife took the PT in for an oil change and they told her that it had no filter and that they recommend doing a flush every 10k miles. I have not looked underneath to double check but never heard of such a thing.

It has an oil filter and it's pretty easy to see. Maybe they misunderstood or something.

I hope she understood incorrectly. Been meaning to look this up for a few days and kept forgetting. Now I need to look at the car and receipt to see if they are blind or maybe something else. I know you can flush the transmission but you would not do that every 10k miles either.

The transmission also has a filter, but not something you can change easy. And you wouldn't do it 10k, more like 50k. And always use the right transmission fluid. Maybe it was the break fluid or power steering fluid? Also with a GT you should use synthetic oil

I'm not sure about the Getrag, but it's very unusual for manuals to have a filter- But not impossible.

Look at your owners manual- It's 'Die Bible' for service intervals.
The business plan for lube places is to 'sell up'- You simply can't make money doing $20-$30 oil changes
I can't think of any component, except engine oil, that would need service/flush every 10k-
Unless you're on a ranch and using it to ford streams or in a highly dusty / unusual application this would be silly.

And I'd recommend against 'flushing' an engine-
Oil is very good at that in itself.

I'm with you Tim. If these "guys", who were doing an oil change, said it didn't have one better look for a different place to have it changed.

Time to buy a floor jack, stands, some wrenches, a oil filter wrench, drain pan and a supply of Sam Adams.

I would run away from any outfit informing you that your car doesnt have an oil filter.

I wonder if they couldnt get your filter off so they told your wife when she looked at the receipt perhaps, that your PT doesnt have a filter.

The auto transaxles have a pancake filter inside them. If you opt to change the fluid in that( which should be done every 30K or so) bring it to a Chrysler dealer, they will use the correct ATF+4 and a mopar filter.

The manual transaxles do not have filters, just a drain and fill plug. Those should be serviced also and the fluid changed periodically.

Attached is what the underside of the front of your car looks like. No#4 is the oil filter. IT CAN'T BE MISSED IF SOMEBODY IS LOOKING FOR IT.
