Unhappy 06 PT Cruiser won't start BUT..

Hey im new on here so maybe you guys can help! :/

i have an 06 Pt Cruiser Touring edition and this is the problem i've had with it today :

It WOULDN'T start. I drove it in the morning to work and when i went to take it out for lunch it wouldn't start. It clicked but it just wouldn't take?
First thought was battery BUT my lights came on perfectly and they we're bright not dim at all?
Second thought would of been the ALTERNATOR but after about 2-4 hours roughly i went to check if it would turn on for shits and giggles and it did!
I just drove it home and im gonna check it out when im off but now im just confused? Someone mentioned it might of be a coil in the starter possibly?

-does anyone incoutner a lot of problems like this in PT's?

hmm i've only had my PT for a few months and it's my first car (bought it used at a dealership) so any ideas or help would be greaaatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

Take it to an auto shop that does a free battery check. To get a full check, you'll have to take the battery out but I think you'll find your battery needs to be replaced. Probably a bad cell.

The starter takes more power than anything else on the car. Almost 12volts to turn the engine over. Everything else (radio, lights) takes a lot less and that's why everything else can work while the engine won't turn over.

Thanks sooo mcuh for the help and quick reply. Hm ok ill take into a Autozone or Kragen; they do free battery test.

I know this might sound like dumb question but like i said im new to this so, how could i check if it's the starter?

Autozone or the other store should also have the equipment to check the whole starting and charging system.

Like Crewzin' said, get your battery checked.

Don't get ahead of yourself thinking it might be the starter or even alternator; a bad alternator and good battery can still make your car turn over.
