Default Timing belt tensioner - upgrade or not?

I have the hydraulic strut type tensioner (4667283) built in the engine for my '00 PT Cruiser and yesterday I looked for some information in the service manual about the correct belt tension. Unfortunately I didn't find any information for this tensioner, because the PDF contains this information only for the new type(978587) tensioner.

Later I found a PDF on the internet about the method of replacing the old type tensioner to the new type.

My engine ran only 60000 miles. Is it highly recommended for me to "upgrade" the old type tensioner?(Because I want to replace the timing belt now) If not, then could anyone give me some information about method of checking the correct belt tension by the old type tensioner?

you might as well since you'll have the whole thing ripped open anyway. probably only cost a coupla bucks more.

NO!

You have this:

These are forever items, used on the 2.0 DOHC (and most SOHCs). I've NEVER heard of one failing- EVERY Neon pre-'99 had them.

Regular one we're used to here are spring type- used for less expense and weight ... The 2.4 doesn't rev even close to the 2.0, so hydraulic dampening isn't needed.

In short, you'd be 'downgrading'.

I adjust mine by prying up until the pin is loose, then tightening tensioner down, then slip out pin.

Yes - you are right: I have a 2.0 DOHC for European market from the early series with this type of tensioner. I thought that the reason for changing this type was a flaw or predisposition to leakage and this could damages the engine..

These are good news for me - many thanks !!

In january I bought a PT with engine failure. It had too much mileage (170 000 miles) so I bought another engine with only 60 000 miles. I overhauled this other engine and the original 41TE transaxle. The overhauled engine and transaxle is now waiting for the build-in procedure, but I worried a lot about this timing belt question in the last few days, because I don't want to kill my "new" engine by doing a mistake ..
